Katie Duckworth looking thoughtfully into the distance for the blog ' this isn't rocket science'

Brilliant non-profit leader, how are you feeling today?

Actually I think I might know.

I imagine you’re feeling pretty flipping done in.

I see you’re overworked. I see you’re overwhelmed. I see you’re torn in a million directions. I see you’re tired. I see you are bombarded with responsibilities and decisions every day.

I see how hard it is to lead your team so you have the impact you’d dearly love without killing yourself in the process.

Today, I read a post on LInkedIn from a charity leader that truly broke my heart. She was utterly wrung out.

And, I’m hearing some tough realities from my one-to-one coaching clients. The hits are coming thick and fast. Bam. Bam. Bam.

  • the demand for your services has gone through the roof
  • you fight for every penny you get from funders
  • you’re income is going in the wrong direction
  • you can’t recruit the expert fundraisers you desperately need
  • you’re deeply concerned about that extra NI contribution
  • your team is anxious about redundancy and change
  • and the news that Donald Trump is to be back in the White House… Well, what can I say?

Are these true for you, too? I bet you can add a whole load more.

Truly. This is so, so tough

I so feel for you. I care so much about you and your team. Your happiness. Your wellbeing. Your effectiveness. Your ability to lead deep meaningful change.

You know in your heart that carrying on with ‘Business As Usual’ is just not going to work. You will end up demoralised, burned out and worse.

Something has to be done.

You need to get up off the floor, out of the weeds, off the battlefield (or however you see your current nuts situation) up where you can see and breathe and recover.

Let’s talk about coaching

I’ve coached some truly amazing leaders over the past few years. They know that quiet, reflective space where they rise up above all these challenges is the answer. No question in their minds at all.

Coaching makes this space.

When you work with a great coach, it gives you time and space to reflect. You get clarity, direction and self-knowledge. You get fresh new insights, new approaches, strategies and resources for tackling your toughest challenges.

Armed with renewed energy, your verve and confidence will ripple through your organisation.

And, very importantly right now, coaching will give you hope.

So what’s stopping you?

More early starts and long evenings at your laptop, isolated from family and friends, are not the answer. (Despite that little voice inside saying –Β  ‘just keep going… I’ve just got to do this… If I can just…. etc etc etc.) You know the voice.

There’s a lot getting in the way of taking that next step. I really get it.

  • You don’t have time to even talk to a potential coach, do you? Let alone find an hour or more a month to be coached! (Ha, the chance would be fine thing)Β  You just need to roll your sleeves us and crack on
  • And you couldn’t possibly justify all that expense on your own development when funds need to go to your mission
  • And, well, it’s not quite the right time, now is it?

Nope. There’s no way. Coaching is O-U-T.

I really get all that – and – quite simply, nothing will change if you do nothing different.

Here’s the thing:

  • It’s never going to feel like the right time for coaching.
  • It’s always going to feel selfish.
  • There’s never going to be enough hours in the day for it.

Let’s just let that sink in.

What’s next?

So… I’m going to challenge you. Can you find 30 minutes to talk? Just 30 mins. I’ll coach you on a pressing issue and if it feels right for us both, I’ll share how one-to-one coaching with me could work.

What do you say?
